Executive Management

Bob Thornton, President

Bob is President of First Republic Investment Management, a position he assumed in 2006. Prior to joining First Republic he was a Managing Director of Deutsche Bank Securities, Inc. in San Francisco. Bob began his career at Goldman, Sachs & Co. as a member of its Corporate Finance Department. Following that, he served as Vice President in Mergers & Acquisitions. He later served as Managing Director at Credit Suisse First Boston and Lehman Brothers, focusing on Mergers and Acquisitions business. Bob received an A.B. from Duke University and a J.D. from Columbia Law School. He also served as a Law Clerk to the United States Court of Appeals, Fifth Circuit.

J. Robert Bloom, Jr., Chief Investment Officer

A leader of our research initiatives, Bob served as Chief Investment Officer for Berg Capital prior to joining First Republic Investment Management. He previously served as President and CEO of LF Kapital's U.S. office. At Friends Ivory & Sime, he held the positions of Partner, Chief Investment Officer, and President and CEO. Bob’s background also includes serving as Head of Equity Investments at Manufacturers Hanover Investment Corporation, and as Chief Investment Officer for Wertheim Asset Management Services. He began his career at Metropolitan Insurance Companies, where he headed the Equity Investment Department. Bob holds a BS in Economics from The Wharton School of Finance and an MBA in Finance from the University of Iowa.
